DSR210 Igor Zaharov & Sober System – Thin Line Ep
The 210th release on Greece’s Deepsessions Recordings sees Igor Zaharov & Sober System returning to the label for their second appearance. The Russian duo have had some nice releases on OLD SQL Recordings, Dark Pleasure and Digital Motion since their debut ‘Hyperopia EP’ on Deepsessions from September of last year. Igor and Sober System’s new EP is entitled ‘Thin Line’ and it comes with remixes from: Franzis-D.
The ‘Thin Line’ original begins with a dirty sounding groove with some nice character. The mood changes quickly though as warm melodies and soft, heavenly pads fade over the mix. Catchy arps and smooth chord changes build a wonderful emotional mood as the track continues to grow. A short drop then introduces a massive synth lead which produces some amazing energy. Additional vocal samples combined with smooth builds and quick drops keep the energy high throughout produce a nice climax which old school progressive trance fans will absolutely love. The lone remix of ‘Thin Line’ comes from Franzis-D who takes those chord changes and creates a much more brooding sound at the tracks outset. Slowly though more of the melodic elements work their way into the mix but in a much more refined and stripped sounding way. The warped underbelly of electronics really stands out here and are an excellent contrast to the lush sounds which hover over the top. The second original on the package ‘The Sun Does Not Give Glory’ comes with a driving but still funky sounding groove that’s constructed with big bass tones, alternating stabs and rolling drums. The main break expands on the melodic content of the record just a touch and builds even more dance floor energy following the break for an epic conclusion. If you’re a fan of the old school progressive house sound then you can’t do much better than the two originals here.
